Rescuers continue their attempts tonight to reach a hiker stranded on a rock ledge above Margarette Falls since just before 2 p.m. Thursday.

Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad volunteers and members of Washington County Rescue Services have made the two-mile trek in an attempt to reach the man numerous times.

A spokesman said rescuers were approximately 80 feet away from the man at approximately 10 p.m.
Earlier efforts to extract the man from the rocky bluff via helicopter were unsuccessful due to strong winds.

A second hiker fell from the ledge earlier in the afternoon and was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
