Alex A. Chesnut has joined Chesnut Law Office LLP, in Greeneville, to practice general law with his father, E. Ron Chesnut.
Alex Chesnut, 36, is a recent graduate of the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Va., and has completed all certified requirements for practicing law in Tennessee.
He was sworn in to practice law on Nov. 1 by Circuit Judge Tom Wright.
Chesnut graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in human resources.
After graduation, Chesnut was employed at Proffitt's Department Stores, where he was a sales manager in Kingsport (managing the largest home store within the Proffitt's division), Johnson City, and Knoxville.
In 2004, Chesnut and his wife, Sarah White Chesnut, moved back to Greeneville to be closer to family. He started working for his father-in-law, Buck White, at White's Window and Siding as a sales representative.
After approximately a year, Chesnut bought Edgemont Market, a store that he frequented as a child, along with a lifelong friend, Frank Jones.
"Owning and working at Edgemont was a wonderful experience for me," stated Chesnut, "because I was able to get to know many of the people in the community where I grew up."
In July 2007, we sold the store to pursue other career opportunities. For the next two years, Chesnut worked in real estate, buying and remodeling houses.
In 2009, Chesnut started pursuing his dream of becoming an attorney, and received a scholarship from the Appalachian School of Law.
"I lived in Grundy, Va., during the week and came home to be with my wife and daughter during the weekend," stated Chenut.
During the summer of 2010, he worked with Assistant District Attorney Cecil Mills Jr. and the District Attorney's Office to fulfill an externship requirement.
Chesnut began working for his father, E. Ronald Chesnut, at the Chesnut Law Office in downtown Greeneville in 2011.
Chesnut graduated from Appalachian School of Law in May 2012 with a Degree of Juris Doctor and a Lawyer as a Problem-Solver Certificate, which includes training in negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.
Chesnut took the Tennessee Bar Exam in July, and he was informed in October that he had passed.
He is a partner with his father at the Chesnut Law Office, which is a general practice firm specializing in family law (divorce, child custody/support), criminal defense, civil litigation, personal injury, small business, estate planning, and wills/trusts.
Chesnut Law Office is at 112 S. Main Street. The telephone number 423-525-4136.
