This Saturday at 3 p.m. will see the closing of the small, attractive restaurant, Chocolate Cafe & Coffee Co., at 665 Erwin Hwy. in Tusculum, across the road from the historic Doak House and Tusculum College.

The owners closed their Chocolate Cafe location across from the Greene County Courthouse at the end of February.

The owner-operator is Jaqueline "Jaci" Weaver, of Greeneville, who said, "With the downturn of the economy, it is no longer feasible for us to keep the restaurant open.

"We had initially thought by closing the location downtown that we might keep the Tusculum location.

"However, after thoughtful consideration, we have decided it is time to move on and go in a different direction."

What direction that will be is yet to be determined, Weaver said.

The Tusculum restaurant, which opened in May 2008, was handsomely remodeled from a former house by Weaver's husband, Tom Weaver, a real estate investor and developer who likes to remodel and renovate older buildings.

Jaci Weaver said earlier this week that she would like to express her appreciation to the loyal customers who supported the business.

She went on to say that she hopes they [the customers] will understand the difficult decision to close.
