Dr. Roberts J. Bradford, who has been practicing dentistry in this community for 46 years, has announced he plans to retire, saying in a letter to his patients, "My body tells me it is time to retire."
As of June 28, Bradford's dental practice has been sold to and is being operated by Dr. Donnie Adkins, a native of Pikeville, Ky.
Dr. Adkins attended Pikeville College, and following graduation, he attended the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. After earning his degree, Dr. Adkins practiced dentistry in the U.S. Air Force for three years.
During this time he completed advanced education in general dentistry, becoming certified to perform conscious sedations and placing implants. In 2007, he started working in a private practice as an associate in Danville, Ky.
Dr. Bradford said in an announcement, "Dr. Adkins practices all aspects of dentistry and stays current on the most up-to-date procedures and technology for his patients.
"He continues to take advanced training to exceed the continuing education requirements. He will be a great addition to the community, and he plans to continue with the same capable office staff as before."
Dr. Bradford expressed appreciation to his staff for their expertise and the number of years they worked with him, saying they would be an asset to Dr. Adkins.
They include: Paulette Bright, registered dental assistant (RDA) ,33 years; Margaret Lawless, registered dental hygienist (RDH), 27 years; Charlene Brockwell, RDA, 15 years; Katherine Helbert, office manager, 12 years; Rachel Bledsoe, RDH, six years; and Cindy Chapman, RDH, three years.
Dr. Adkins and his wife, Melinda, have two daughters, Kaitlyn, 6, and Abigail, 3.
