In The Commons
By DOUGLAS WATSON
Legacy Fine Jewelers opened on Monday in the Greeneville Commons shopping center.
The store occupies a site near the former Friedman's jewelry store, which closed on June 28 when that company closed its national chain of some 400 stores.
The co-owners of Legacy Fine Jewelers are Faye and Rick Barnes, a couple with much experience in the business.
Faye Barnes, who is originally from Elizabethton, said in an interview she has been in the jewerly business for 37 years, the last 11 years as manager of the Friedman's store here.
She said the local Friedman's store had done very well in comparison with the company's other stores in this region.
Rick Barnes, a native Kentuckian, is an experienced goldsmith, who worked independently for Friedman's and other local jewelery stores. Both Mr. and Mrs. Barnes are certified diamondologists and gemologists.
Their 1,400 square-foot store will be holding a drawing on Oct. 31 for a $1,000 gift card. Visitors to the store may register once per visit for a chance to win.
Legacy Fine Jewelers is open daily except Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The telephone number is 638-8157.
