Smokin' Pig Owner Returns To Roots

Jonesborough's loss is Greeneville's gain.

Due to an ordinance change, Smokin' Pig BBQ could no longer operate on the corner near the Lowe's in Jonesborough. So, Greene County native Jerry Hipps began looking for a new location and partner, both of which were found in Greeneville.

Smokin' Pig BBQ is located at 708 E. Church St. next to Signs Plus. The dining room offers a cozy place to dine in or carryout.

Founder and pit man Jerry Hipps, along with new partner Shawn Tino, said what sets them apart from other barbecue is the "daily hand-tended, slow, sweet heat provided by 100 percent hardwood smoke ."

Menu offerings are pulled pork and brisket, which are slow-smoked for 14 hours, along with ribs and chicken, smoked daily. Side items on the menu are beans, cole slaw, potato salad and chips.

Smokin' Pig BBQ is availiable to handle catering events and fundraising needs.

During the holidays, Smokin' Pig BBQ is offering smoked turkeys as well. You can purchase your own turkey and drop it off or order one from them.

Hours of operation are Tuesday-Thursday 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday noon until 8 p.m. Smokin' Pig BBQ is closed Sunday and Monday. Its phone number is 638-8227.
