Mike Stone, a certified physician assistant in family medicine at Takoma Medical Associates, recently was named a "Preceptor of the Year" at South College in Knoxville.
Stone was recently named "Physician Assistant Preceptor of the Year" at the college's annual graduation ceremonies. He is a member of the school's advisory board for the master's level Physician Assistant Studies program.
"As a preceptor, I work with a medical student for a period of time, much like an apprenticeship," Stone said. "I work with four students a year in my area of specialty, which is family practice.
"The 'Preceptor of the Year' is selected by the students themselves out of the many preceptors they encounter during their last year of training. I was surprised to be selected and very grateful."
Stone graduated from Albany Medical College-Hudson Valley Community College, College of Medicine, as a physician's assistant, and has more than 34 years of experience.
He received certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
