Abandoned Home Destroyed By Fire

An abandoned home located on Shelton Mission Road burned overnight on Sunday, according to a report by the Greene County Sheriff's Department.

No exact address was provided in the report.

The building, owned by Vulcan Materials Co., was already "on the ground" when the plant manager arrived at the scene and called to report the fire, according to Deputy Travis Hoxie's report.

The manager, Steve Whittenburg, indicated that there had recently been signs someone had been sleeping in the building without permission, but he was never able to catch anyone there, the report said.

The home was listed as a "total loss" and was valued at $18,500.
