Billy Smith, 46, who was seriously injured in an ATV accident earlier this week, was listed in critical condition at the Johnson City Medical Center on Friday evening, a hospital spokesperson said.
Smith, of Flag Branch Road, was involved in the all-terrain-vehicle wreck about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center.
Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Service Director Robert Sayne stated concerning the accident that Smith "was riding a four-wheeler and the brakes went out and he ran into the back of a tractor, resulting in a hay spear piercing his right upper chest area. He had severe chest trauma."
A hay spear is a piece of farm equipment used on the back of a tractor to pick up large hay bales.
