An Afton woman was charged Tuesday with drug possession offenses following a traffic stop in Washington County, Sheriff Ed Graybeal said in a news release.
Renee B. Luttrell, 31, of 35 Shanks Park, was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a minor traffic violation. She was asked to step out of the vehicle.
"A few minor inquiries into whether Luttrell had anything illegal on her person led to her handing the investigator a small Baggie of diverted Diazepam pills," Graybeal said in the release.
"A search of her purse led to recovery of drug paraphernalia, including straws and spoons with drug residue, along with more diverted pills, Diazepam and oxycodone."
After Luttrell was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, she was advised "that any illegal item on her person would result in a separate felony charge," Graybeal said.
Luttrell took a small bag containing marijuana from inside her pants and gave it to deputies.
Luttrell was asked again if she was carrying anything illegal.
"This time, she retrieved another hypodermic (needle) from inside her pants," Graybeal said.
Luttrell was taken inside the detention center, where detention officers "quickly discovered she had attempted to conceal a bottle containing over 63 more illegally diverted prescription pills by partially inserting it into a body orifice," the sheriff said.
When confronted, Luttrell removed and handed over the bottle, which contained Clonazepam, Alprazolam and Diazepam, along with other prescription pills, the news release said.
Luttrell was charged with possession of Schedule II and IV drugs for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of a Schedule VI drug and introduction of drugs into a penal facility.
Her bond was set at $32,000 pending a first appearance Tuesday in Washington County General Sessions Court. She remained in custody this morning.
