A pair of shoes worn by a woman to a Tusuclum College basketball game Wednesday night looked very familiar to another student whose dorm room was burglarized the week before.
Other possessions taken from the room were later found inside a sport utility vehicle parked in a college lot near Niswonger Commons, sheriff's Sgt. David Beverly said in a report.
When sheriff's deputies arrived on campus, they were flagged down by college security and a group of students motioning to a Nissan Pathfinder parked in the lot.
A report filed earlier said the victim's room was entered on Jan. 29 and $320 worth of clothing removed.
The victim asked the woman wearing the shoes to go with her to the campus security office. The female suspect in the case returned the shoes and left, the report said.
When the victim and some friends looked in the window of the parked SUV, "she [the victim] could see some of her items reported stolen [on Jan. 29]," the report said.
The victim was handed the key to the SUV by a male student who "left in a hurry" when deputies pulled into the parking lot, the reports said.
The Nissan was impounded and towed to the Sheriff's Department lot on Summer Street. An inventory Thursday of items inside the SUV included a purse and other possessions owned by the victim, the report said.
Also found in the vehicle was a plastic cigar tube containing three partially-smoked marijuana "blunts," the report said.
A pipe that "smelled of marijuana" was found in the back seat.
Two boxes of clothing that were in another car were returned to the victim, the report said.
An investigation continues.
