Academy Street will be closed to traffic on Sunday in preparation for an afternoon mini-concert to be presented free by The Band Perry, the Greene County Partnership has announced.
The event, which will also include an autograph session, will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Greene County Partnership's parking lot on Academy Street.
The public is invited to attend. There is no charge.
The members of the very popular country music trio consist of Kimberly Perry and her two brothers Neil Perry and Reid Perry. They are the children of Greeneville pediatrician Dr. Stephen Perry and his wife, Marie.
The family moved to Greeneville from Mobile, Ala., in 2002.
During the planned special event on Sunday, the group will perform a few songs from their new debut CD, titled "The Band Perry," which is scheduled for national release on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
Advance copies of their CD, however, will be available for sale on Sunday for $15 at the event, and the band members will be available for autographs.
Parking for the event will be available downtown on Main, Depot, Church and College streets. Academy Street will be closed to traffic.
There will be no seating provided, so those attending the concert are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
There will be no concessions available.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Niswonger Performing Arts Center, next to Greeneville High School, on Tusculum Boulevard.
'VOCAL GROUP' NOMINATION
The Band Perry has been nominated for the 2010 Country Music Association's "Vocal Group of the Year."
They share the Vocal Group nomination with such big names in country music as Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts and Zac Brown Band.
The CMA awards ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 10 in Nashville and will air live on ABC-TV.
Two songs from the CD, "Hip to My Heart" and "If I Die Young," have already received a great deal of airplay on country music radio nationwide.
"Hip to My Heart" peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Country Single Chart, and "If I Die Young" has risen to No. 12.
The group signed with Republic Nashville in August 2009.
Its members have been touring extensively this summer. This fall, they are scheduled to open shows for country superstar Alan Jackson.
