Renovation work to the wall of the Andrew Johnson Bank building on North Main Street began this week. The brick wall will be restored to reflect the 19th-century period when the building was new, said Jeff Idell, president of general contractor Idell Construction Co., Inc. Work was under way Thursday, with employees of subcontractor Creative Masonry, Inc,. of Jonesborough. Idell said the job is an “extensive process” and will take about three weeks. Hand-molded bricks will be used and the mortar joints in the wall will be re-mortared, Idell said.
