An event has been scheduled for Saturday afternoon, Feb. 16, in connection with the observance of Black History Month during February.
A news release stated that the event was being sponsored by the Wesley Heights Community at large, in conjunction with member of the area's various churches and the George Clem Multicultural Alliance.
The event, which is described as a Black History Month Celebration, is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, at the Community Family Life Center of Friendship Baptist Church, 343 Davis St.
The release stated that "The primary participants of this program will consist of our area youth, as well as performance/involvement of both Maryville College and Tusculum College students ... the emphasis being 'Our Past through the Eyes of Our Future.'"
Friendship Baptist Youth will perform various "Infomercial Skits," and various church youth will do 6-7 "I Am" biographical presentations of various prominent Black History individuals, past and present.
The release noted that both Greeneville Mayor W.T. Daniels and Greene County Mayor Alan Broyles have been invited, and the public is invited as well.
Door admission donations are $5 for adults, $2.50 for ages 12-18, and free under 12.
