A nine-year-old boy who was violently attacked by a pit bull last week remains hospitalized in stable condition, according to Greene County Sheriff's" Lt. Vincent Tweed.

The child has undergone multiple surgeries, and remains in a Knoxville hospital, Tweed noted.

The pit bull was owned by the child's family as a pet, Tweed confirmed on Monday.

The attack took place at the child's home in Mosheim.

The case remains under investigation.
