Boys & Girls Clubs of America has honored the Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County and its board of directors as the Southeast Region's High Performance Board Team.
The award was presented to Executive Director Scott Bullington on behalf of the organization at the regional conference in Myrtle Beach in late September.
Later in the fall, Chet Nichols, of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, came to Greeneville and attended a board of directors meeting for the local club to present the award to the entire board membership.
The Southeast Region High Performance award recognizes successes in "marketing, resource development, outreach and planning," Nichols explained.
This award is based on a two-year look at clubs throughout the Southeast region and was won in the division for clubs with a less-than-$1 million budget.
The club had previously won the Tennessee High Performance Board Award, putting it into position for the regional award.
"We are blessed that our board members bring intelligence, sensibility, character, and passion for the organization and the Boys & Girls Club mission to our club," Bullington said.
"The success of our club is a direct result of a highly effective board of directors.
"We are blessed with so many great board volunteers working with our club to provide opportunities for the youth of Greeneville & Greene County," he added.
Members of the Greeneville board are Daniel Johnson, president; Rebecca Tipton, vice-president; Carla Bewley, past president; Ted Bryant, treasurer; Laura Pendleton, secretary; Steve Mears and Nicki Sentelle, members at-large; and Bill Carroll, Shawn Collins, Doug DeBusk, Jerry Fortner, Crystal Hirschy, Tom Hite, David Lane, Daniel Lewis, Renee Lowery, Jancie Painter, Josh Quillen, Josh Swatzell, Tim Ward, Carolyn Yokley and Eddie Yokley, board members.
Administrative staff include: Bullington, Program Director Cathy Osborne and Resource Development Director Bridget Jones.
The Boys & Girls Club is located at 740 W. Church St.
Membership is $5 for the entire school year and $100 for the entire summer. The club serves school-age children in kindergarten to 12th grade with many programs and activities.
