Chancery Court Judge Thomas R. Frierson II is one of three candidates who have been recommended to Gov. Bill Haslam for a Tennessee Court of Appeals Eastern Section vacancy.
Chancellor Frierson, of Morristown, represents the Third Judicial District that includes Greene County.
He was one of 11 applicants for the Court of Appeals Eastern Section vacancy created by the upcoming Dec. 31 retirement of Court of Appeals Judge Herschel P. Franks.
The Court of Appeals Eastern Section serves 13 judicial districts in East Tennessee.
After holding a public hearing and interview for each applicant, the Judicial Nominating Commission recommended Frierson and two other candidates to Governor Bill Haslam.
The other two candidates are Chancellor Jerri S. Bryant, of Athens, in the 10th Judicial District; and state Sen. Michael Faulk, who operates a private law practice in Church Hill.
The Judicial Nominating Commission met Friday. Haslam will now consider the recommendations, court officials said.
