Greeneville police have a pretty good idea who is responsible for taking personal checks from a Marshall Lane woman and cashing at least seven of them at local businesses prior to Jan. 15.
The same person also likely used the victim's debit card to purchase a Straight Talk telephone for $50.69, Officer Louis Calobrisi said in a report.
The Capital Bank checks were made out in amounts ranging from $25 to $51, the report said.
"In an extraordinary stroke of genius, the suspect was careful to record his driver's license number on each check he forged/cashed," the report said.
The case remains under investigation.
