More than $1,200 worth of wrapped Christmas presents along with numerous other items were stolen between Dec. 12 and Friday from a house in the 600 block of North Hill Street, Greenville police Officer Louis Calobrisi said in a report.
Also stolen were two flat-screen televisions, three wedding rings, necklaces, gold and silver earrings, costume jewelry, sheets, a comforter and other bedding, a pocket watch, coins and prescription medications.
The victim told police he was away from home for several days and found the house ransacked when he returned.
There were no signs of forced entry, but the thief apparently got inside by placing a city trash can on its side and using it to climb through a kitchen window, the report said.
The value of the 32-inch-screen and 19-inch-screen televisions, jewelry and other possessions exceeds $4,300.
The window apparently used to enter the house may not have been locked, the report said.
The burglary remains under investigation.
