Commissioner Visits, Offers Praise

Jim Henry, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD), visited several DIDD-operated facilities on Wednesday, including one of 13 East Tennessee Community Homes, at 102 Dyer St. Here, Henry visits with resident Marilyn Leinart. Home Manager Christine Weems holds a dynavox, a speech-generating device. The new device allows Leinart to point at icons on a screen with her eyes and a computer speaks the word associated with the icon. Henry visited community homes, “offering praise for the excellent survey results accomplished by the program,” DIDD spokeswoman Missy Marshall said. Henry also visited with employees of the Greene Valley Developmental Center and Holston United Methodist Home for Children.
