A Kingsport woman died in a one-car crash about 7:35 a.m. Saturday on Horton Highway east of Pyburn Lane, sheriff's Deputy Toby Price said in a report.

Kimberly Lynne Hilton, 48, of Russell Street, was the sole occupant of a 2004 BMW four-door sedan that slammed into an earth embankment and tree, the report said.

Hilton was westbound in the 13000 block of Horton Highway at the time of the wreck.

"While negotiating a curve, it appears the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway" and traveled 90 feet before becoming airborne and striking a dirt embankment and tree.

Hilton was pronounced dead at the scene by members of Greene County Greeneville-Emergency Medical Services the report said.

A factor in the wreck was "speed too fast for conditions," the report said.

It was raining at the time of the crash, the report said.

Hilton was wearing a shoulder and lap belt at the time of the crash. Rescue personnel had to extricate her from the car.
