County Commissioner David Crum, of the 8th district, announced Monday that he will run as a Republican candidate in the 2014 election for county mayor.
The announcement came near the beginning of the June Greene County Republican Party meeting.
Crum is a detective lieutenant in the Greeneville Police Department and is serving his first term as a county commissioner.
Accompanying Crum was his father, Ray Crum, and his wife, Louise.
"I wanted to come before you all tonight -- I've been a Republican all my life -- and announce my candidacy for Greene County mayor in 2014," Crum said.
"I feel confident that I have the education, the experience and the leadership skills that I could bring positive aspects to Greene County and bring that to the Republican Party," he added.
Crum will hold his campaign kickoff event on Saturday, June 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds.
On Monday, the Greene County Republican Party also heard from County Trustee Dan Walker concerning his duties in office and the county's funding sources.
At the close of the meeting, County Republican Party Chairman Brett Purguson called for members to begin preparing for the 2014 elections, which will include many key offices.
He urged Republicans to recruit candidates for those offices in which there may not be a Republican officeholder who will run for re-election.
