A woman was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor Monday, and her boyfriend was charged with domestic assault, Greeneville police said in reports.
Sharon Dixon Shepherd, 56, of 100 S. Rufe Taylor Road, has custody of four children who were riding in her sport utility vehicle, Officer Jeff Sowers said in a report.
Officers responded to a call of possible child abuse at the Tusculum Boulevard McDonald's, but the vehicle described had left when police arrived.
It was stopped nearby on Snapps Ferry Road, Lt. Steve Spano said in a report.
Robert L. Hutton, 41, of the South Rufe Taylor Road address, was a passenger in the SUV.
In the McDonald's parking lot, he allegedly walked around to the rear of the SUV, opened the hatch back and "grabbed an 8-year-old child out of the vehicle and began spanking him, then struck the child in the head with a closed fist," the report said.
"He then threw the child back into the rear seat and slammed the hatch back (down)," the report said.
Shepherd allowed two children to ride in the back of the SUV without safety restraints or "no air circulation," the report said.
Shepherd was issued a summons, and Hutton was held on no bond. Both are scheduled to appear June 10 in General Sessions Court.
