The annual Howl-O-Ween event on Saturday attracted more than 40 entrants, hosted by the Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society.

Held at the Animal Shelter on Hal Henard Road, the "critter party" also featured children's activities, door prizes, raffles and popular food concessions from Creamy Cup and The Smokin' Pig BBQ.

Gospel singer Savannah Faith had been scheduled to sing at the event but became ill and could not appear.

In her absence, Tyler Warren entertained the crowd with several Gospel and country songs, accompanying himself on guitar.

Howl-O-Ween was "a big success," said Tonya Ridley, Humane Society president.

The winners in the dog division were:

* First place: T.J. Greer and Cracker;

* Second place: Sheri and Summer Ray and Gizmo;

* Third place (five-way tie): Antonio Bobadilla, and Bud; Keylan Newton, and Gizmo; Kylee Ricker, and Ruby; Angel Bobadilla, and Honey; and Jennifer Simmons, and Emmitt, and

* Honorable mention: Hunter Motz, and Celine.

In the "other animal" division, the first-place winner was Kyley Motz and her rabbit, Merida.

The People's Choice Award went to Cookie Lance and her pooch, Puglet.

The master of ceremonies for the event was U-Geen Owens, of Dog Leg Creek, Miss., also known in some parts as John Brown.
