A Mosheim resident remained hospitalized Wednesday in stable condition following a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer just before midnight on Tuesday.

Nicholas Loveall, age unknown, of Mosheim, was transported by Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services to Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

Loveall was traveling northbound on U.S. 11E around 11:45 p.m., Tuesday in a 1998 Ford Taurus when he was struck head-on by the tractor-trailer, the Tennessee Highway Patrol said in a preliminary report.

He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report.

The 2010 International tractor-trailer, driven by 26-year-old Jawonn Owens, of Pattison, Miss., was hauling general freight when he entered the highway traveling south in the northbound lanes.

The THP cited Owens for driving on the wrong side of the road.

EMS Director Robert Sayne said the accident occurred at the intersection with Bridge Burners Boulevard.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department received a call concerning a tractor-trailer traveling in the wrong direction in this same general vicinity around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday -- three hours before the head-on collision.

Deputies responding to the call did not receive any related crash reports and did not locate the tractor-trailer, according to a representative of the Sheriff's Department.
