Fire destroyed a home Wednesday night at 15945 Horton Hwy.

No injuries were reported, according to Brad Ball, chief of the United Volunteer Fire Department in Baileyton.

The home, owned by Linda Hughes and rented by Bonnie Wines, was occupied by a family of three who escaped the blaze, Ball said.

The United VFD received an alarm at 5:53 p.m., Ball said.

The department, he said, responded with three units and 15 firefighters, assisted by approximately four units and 15 firefighters from the Fall Branch VFD.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 9:29 p.m., Ball said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he added.

Anthony Morrison, executive director of the American Red Cross Greene County Chapter, said the home was "totally destroyed."

"Last night, we were supporting the emergency workers, and then today we'll probably follow up to see if the family needs any clothing, shelter, food, that kind of thing," Morrison said this morning.

Also responding was Deputy John Harness of the Greene County Sheriff's Department.
