Fire early Sunday destroyed a wood frame house at 295 Rocky Hill Drive, sheriff's Lt. Wesley Holt said in a report.
No injuries were reported.
The fire was reported to 911 Dispatch about 12:15 a.m. Sunday. The Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department and the Midway Volunteer Fire department were dispatched to the scene.
"Upon their arrival, they found the structure totally involved in fire," the report said.
The owner of the house is Richard Allen, of Greeneville.
The renter, Kenneth Brown Jr., was out of town when the fire occurred, the report said.
The fire may have started in a back bedroom, the report said.
Brown was contacted, and told deputies a window air conditioner "was left on while he was gone," the report said.
Damage to the 32-by-24 foot house is $47,500. Damage to contents totals $10,000.
The fire remains under investigation by Mosheim fire Chief Harold Williamson.
