Free Downtown Concert Planned Friday, Aug. 9

The first downtown concert of an event series presented by Music Off Main (MOM), a project of Main Street: Greeneville, will be held Friday, Aug. 9, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. rain or shine.

The free event will be held below Main Street on West Depot, which will be closed to traffic, a news release said.

Headlining the concert event will be The Trey Hensley Band. Greeneville musician Stephen Winslow will open the concert.

Hensley, a native of Jonesborough, plays his own brand of traditional honky-tonk music. He hit the road with his four-piece band several years ago and has toured from Philadelphia to Los Angeles, Nebraska to North Carolina.

He now returns to his native Tennessee for a few concert dates.

Winslow is a Greeneville musician who plays lead guitar in Sandy Ray and The Cold Shoulders and is one of the best known guitarists in the region.

His repertoire includes Americana, honky-tonk and Appalachian style music. He will showcase some of his original music.

The Greeneville Arts Council will host a children's art tent before and during the concert, with a variety of activities for all ages.

Christ United Methodist Church will provide a pet pavilion with shade and water if you wish to bring your pet with you.

Andrew Johnson Bank is the sponsor of the first MOM event.

Persons are encouraged to come early and shop with your local downtown merchants prior to the concert.

Plan to have dinner at one of the local downtown restaurants prior to the event or enjoy a varied selection of food provided by local vendors at the event, the news release suggests.

There will be a drawing for door prizes donated by downtown merchants.
