The Greeneville High School band program has been invited to perform with the Pride of the Southland Band at the University of Tennessee-South Alabama football game on Sept. 28 in Knoxville.
"We are very excited and honored to be a part of such an amazing tradition!" said Brooke Williams, GHS Band director.
"This is only the third time that a high school band has ever been asked to perform with the UT band," Williams said. "We will be marching to the stadium, performing halftime, and performing during the game.
"It is so special to have both of my alma maters -- Greeneville High and the University of Tennessee -- perform together," Williams continued. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime event for sure!"
"The university also wants as many people to support the band as possible," she added.
"If you are interested in attending this game, UT Athletics has given us a discounted price for tickets. They are excited about seeing how much the community will support the band as well!
"Go to http://uttix.com/ and at the bottom right of the page, enter the promo code GHSBANDVOLS for your discount!"
To support the students, T-shirts will be made up to honor this event. They have to be pre-ordered and pre-paid. The shirts will be $10 for sizes S to XL, $15 for 2XL and larger.
Orders must be placed and paid for by Sept. 10. If you are interested in purchasing a T-shirt to support the GHS band, you may email Brooke Williams at (Williamsb@gcschools.net)
"This is a significant honor for our band program," Williams said. "The students have worked extremely hard. It is an honor that they are being recognized by the University of Tennessee for their achievements!
"It is also amazing to see how many people in the community have voiced their pride in the program! We can't wait to see how many 'Greenevillians' are at the game to show their support!"
