GL&PS Issues Warning About Attempted Scam

Officials at the Greeneville Light & Power System (GL&PS) are warning of a scam that targets commercial customers.

General Manager Bill Carroll said Tuesday that some of the utility's business customers have received calls telling them that payments must be made or electrical service will be disconnected.

Those calls, Carroll said, are a scam.

"That's not the way we do business," he said.

Other utility companies across the state have had similar scams targeting their commercial customers.

"Now it seems it's happening here," Carroll said.

"It is a scam. Do not fall victim to it," he warned.

Carroll said that multiple customers who have received the scam calls have reported its coming from a phone number with a 425 area code.

That area code is associated with Seattle, Wash.

Carroll says any GL&PS customers who receive the call are advised to disregard it and contact the utility directly to sort out any questions they may have.

Anyone with questions may contact GL&PS by calling 636-6200.
