Greeneville has been named the Tennessee Town of the Month by tnvacation.com, the official website of the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development.
The honor, bestowed to the highest vote-getter in a Facebook contest, includes a dedicated board on the Pinterest page of tnvacation.com.
Greeneville's dedicated Pinterest board, posted as the winner, was announced Friday afternoon. It can be found at http://ow.ly/jML2s.
The board features 14 photos of things that make Greeneville and Greene County unique, including The Band Perry, Andrew Johnson, Main Street, historic churches, and beautiful mountain views.
This month's contest began Tuesday when tnvacation.com posted a request for votes on its Facebook page.
Votes were cast by commenting the name of a town on that Facebook post.
Of 107 comments, Greeneville was mentioned in 55 comments, several of which mentioned Greenevill's being the home of The Band Perry.
The remaining 52 comments included votes for 34 different cities and towns all across the state, from Memphis to Blountville.
When a new Tennessee Town of the Month is named for May, Greeneville's photos will be placed in a Pinterest board dedicated to all the former Tennessee Towns of the Month: Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Johnson City, and Bell Buckle.
