Greeneville police are investigating the theft Tuesday night of a donation box that was located at the entrance to Hardin Park at 602 Crescent Drive, Officer Nicholas Fillers said in a report.
The donation box is used in connection with the "Christmas in the Park" light display in the park.
The annual light display is presented by the Greeneville Department of Parks and Recreation and is free to the public.
Voluntary donations are welcome, however, and are used to improve the display for the following years.
"The donation box was reported anchored into the asphalt" and was secured with four bolts. The entire box was removed, the report said.
The theft was discovered about 10:10 p.m. Tuesday by an employee who was closing the park for the night.
The park worker estimates that about $100 was in the box "due to the number of vehicles that had passed through the park," the report said.
