Dog, New Family

BY JANET MEDCALF

On Thursday, June 28, a wonderful thing happened at the Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society Adoption Center.

A couple by the name of Roy and Alice Seymour walked into the lobby waving a copy of The Greeneville Neighbor News which featured a story about a little dog named "Sally." Mr. and Mrs. Seymour anxiously asked if Sally was still available for adoption.

When told that she was indeed still available, they were shocked because they thought for sure that she would've been adopted by then. They immediately asked to be introduced to her.

While waiting for Sally to be brought out, Roy and Alice shared the story of how their precious dog, Wheezy, a Boston Terrier, had passed away after 13 years last February 2011.

Their story was very moving, and they knew when they saw Sally's story in The Greeneville Neighbor News that they had to come see her. They hoped that she would be the perfect dog to come into their home.

Roy and Alice couldn't understand how Sally, a beautiful female Boston Terrier mix, ended up as a stray at Greene County Animal Control in January of this year.

But they were happy to know that one of our Adoption Center employees happened to see her there, and that the employee knew immediately that she had to bring Sally "up the hill" to the Humane Society and put her up for adoption.

When Roy and Alice met Sally, there was an instant connection. They took her for a walk on the leash and spent time with her by themselves to see if Sally would be a good match.

Lots of kisses later, the Seymours knew that Sally was going home with them. It was indeed a match made in Heaven! They even let Sally know that she had toys waiting for her at her new home, and, knowing she loves to swim, they have promised to buy her a new swimming pool this week!

It's been a few days now, and the Seymours tell us that Sally is adjusting very well with her new family, and that she's checked the entire house out with her nose and has made herself right at home!

They plan to keep us up to date on Sally and how she is doing.

On behalf of the Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society Adoption Center, we want to thank this wonderful couple, Roy and Alice Seymour, for their love and compassion for animals as well as thank The Greeneville Neighbor News for featuring little Sally's story, enabling her to finally find her "forever" home!

Editor's Note:

Although an article in The Greeneville Sun's sister publication, The Greeneville Neighbor News, was the crucial link that led Roy and Alice Seymour to "Sally," readers of the Sun also learned Sally's poignant story -- before she had been adopted -- in a special guest column of Animal Talk on Saturday, June 16.

We thought our readers would enjoy hearing "the rest of the story."
