Joe E. Jaynes, current President of the Baileyton Ruritan Club, was one of seven persons elected to a three-year term as Ruritan national director at the January Ruritan National Convention in Branson, Mo.
Jaynes' election is a historic event for the Ruritan organization in that he will be serving his third term as national director, having served two previous terms from 1978 to 1980 and 2009 to 2011.
No other Ruritan has had that distinction of service, according to a recent news release.
Over the next year, Jaynes will be assigned to the two East Tennessee districts: Davy Crockett and Tennessean.
These two districts have 56 clubs and 1,125 Ruritan members all serving their local communities.
Jaynes became a member of the Baileyton Ruritan Club in 2004.
Jaynes began his Ruritan membership in the Doak Ruritan Club where he served in all offices of the club.
In 1977 Jaynes was elected Davy Crockett District governor.
The Davy Crockett District honored Jaynes with the Ruritan Forever Award at the 2013 Davy Crockett District Convention.
After being elected, Jaynes said, "I hope I will be able to make some lasting contribution to this great orginization which does so much to improve the local communities thru our community service, good will and fellowship."
Ruritan National is now in 25 states, with a total of 30,000 members.
The Ruritan National office is located in Dublin, Va.
