The Greene County Election Commission has announced that Russell Johnson, of Forest Street, Greeneville, has filed a petition to run in the 8th County Commissioner District.
The position was made vacant with the death of commissioner Brenda Grogan on Aug. 6 following a recent illness.
Johnson filed the petition on Tuesday.
The election to fill Grogan's unexpired term will take place on Nov. 6 in connection with the state and federal General Election on that date.
The commissioner term expires at the end of August 2014.
