The cause of fire at a Kingsport Highway home on Monday afternoon is under investigation by the Greene County Sheriff's Department.
Units from the Newmansville Volunteer Fire Department were called to 5835 Kingsport Hwy. Monday afternoon after the homeowner returned to find smoke coming from the residence.
Newmansville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Cameron Waters said that the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen area.
Greene County Sheriff's Department Fire Inspector/Arson Investigator Jakie Christy was called to the scene.
In addition to three trucks from the Newmansville Volunteer Fire Department, three trucks from the Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department responded.
Approximately 20 firefighters worked at the scene for approximately 20 minutes to extinguish the flames, Waters said.
