Lincoln Dinner Speaker Was Attorney In Terri Schiavo Case

David Gibbs III, the attorney at the center of the years-long legal battle to save the life of Terri Schiavo, will be the keynote speaker at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner sponsored by the Greene County Republican Women on Saturday, March 3.

Gibbs attained national recognition when he represented the family of Robert and Mary Schindler in their fight to save the life of their daughter, Terri Schiavo.

He has authored five books, including Fighting for Dear Life: The Untold Story of Terri Schiavo and What It Means for All of Us.

The Terri Schiavo case lasted from 1998 to 2005.

The highly publicized case went through many twists and turns before life support finally was terminated for Terri Schiavo.

In Fighting For Dear Life, Gibbs describes watching Terri Shiavo's final days. He noted that she was not "a vegetable" -- that she laughed, cried, and responded to verbal commands.

"Life is precious." said Crystal Goan-Hawk, Greene County Republican Women's chairman.

"Attorney David Gibbs' story of representing the family of Terry Schiavo is a fascinating journey into a discussion about preservation of life. His message is moving and one that should interest all people of our region."

The annual event will be held at the General Morgan Inn.

A social hour will begin at 5 p.m., and the dinner is at 6 p.m. Tickets for the event are $30.

For reservations or more information, call Kay Solomon Armstrong at 798-1742; Crystal Goan-Hawk at 639-8146, Gail Davis Jeffers, at 798-1765; or Joy Rader, at 798-1726.
