A number of area agencies and governmental offices will ring in the new year with a day off on New Year's Day, a federal and state holiday.
The Greene County Courthouse and Courthouse Annex, and Greeneville, Baileyton and Mosheim town halls will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1.
Tusculum City Hall will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1.
County Convenience Centers will be open Wednesday, but the Greeneville-Greene County Transfer Station & Demolition Landfill will be closed.
The Convenience Centers will close when the compactors are full.
The Town of Greeneville Department of Public Works will observe Wednesday as a holiday and on Thursday will collect garbage normally collected Wednesday, along with the regular Thursday routes.
The James H. Quillen United States Federal Courthouse in Greeneville will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday, will remain closed Wednesday, and will reopen on a regular schedule Thursday.
The Greene County Health Department will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in observance of the holiday.
The Greeneville office of the Tennessee Department of Human Services will be closed Wednesday, as will the Greeneville Social Security Office.
The Greeneville-Greene County Public Library will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
The T. Elmer Cox Genealogical Library is not typically open on Tuesday and will be closed Wednesday as well in observance of the holiday.
Offices of the Greeneville Light & Power System will be closed Wednesday.
The Greeneville Water Department offices will close Tuesday at noon and remain closed Wednesday.
The Greene County Partnership will be closed Wednesday.
Students in Greeneville City Schools will return to the classroom on Monday, Jan. 6, while students in the Greene County School System return on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
The Greene County YMCA will be open Tuesday until 7 p.m. and will remain closed all day Wednesday.
The Greeneville Sun's offices will be closed Wednesday. Wednesday's issue will be delivered on Wednesday morning.
