Man Charged With DUI, Theft
After Alleged Shoplifting

Rodney M. Blansett, 42, of 1092 Spears Dykes Road, was charged Tuesday night with driving under the influence, theft under $500 and driving on a suspended license, sheriff's Deputy Billy Walters said in a report.

Deputies received an alert to be on the lookout for a man who allegedly stole items from the Marathon Market on the U.S. 11E Bypass.

The sport utility vehicle driven by Blansett was pulled over on Lonesome Pine Trail after it was seen driving on the "wrong side of the road on a flat tire," the report said.

Blansett's SUV also has a broken headlight and he was driving on a front rim, the report said.

Earlier, he allegedly took a pair of sunglasses, an energy drink and candy. The items were found in Blansett's pockets and vehicle, along with an open vodka bottle, the report said.

Blansett was unsteady on his feet and did poorly on field sobriety tests, the report said.

A records check showed Blansett's license was suspended.

Bond was set at $2,500, pending a first scheduled General Sessions Court appearance today.
