Man Charged With Vehicle Theft

A Greeneville man allegedly caught in the act of stealing a vehicle was charged early today with theft over $10,000 of a vehicle and consuming alcohol under the age of 21, Greeneville police Officer James Craft said in a report.

Greeneville police were called at 4:46 a.m. today about an "unknown male" entering a 2003 Ford Expedition at a home in the 900 block of Tusculum Boulevard.

The owner told police the "unknown subject" had now started his vehicle.

Tony David Hensley, 19, of 220 Pinecrest Drive was taken into custody at the scene. The sport utility vehicle "still had the motor running," the report said.

Hensley had a strong odor of alcohol and admitted to drinking earlier, the report said.

He was held on $6,000 bond pending a first scheduled General Sessions Court appearance on Wednesday.
