An autopsy will be conducted following the death early Sunday of a 47-year-old man living in a group home setting at 2105 Susong Road, authorities said.
Ronnie Derrick was found dead in his room by a home employee about 6 a.m. Sunday, a Sheriff's Department report said.
The temperature in the room where Derrick died seemed extremely warm, a report by a sheriff's deputy stated.
"Upon entering the room around 6:40 a.m., I immediately felt the heat inside," the report said.
The Sheriff's Department was notified to provide backup for Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene.
An employee who found Derrick noted the "extreme heat" in the room when his body was found, the report said.
The facility is operated by the state Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities-East Tennessee Community Homes.
"We are checking into this and grieving our loss. It is being looked at very closely," said Margi Story, director of East Tennessee Community Homes.
Story declined to elaborate on further details of the death.
There are 13 group homes in Greene County, each with four residents, Story said.
The Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities also administers Greene Valley Developmental Center.
