A Bulls Gap man was questioned by Greeneville police after attempting to exchange four counterfeit $5 bills for a $20 bill at Andrew Johnson Bank, 124 N. Main St., Officer Christopher Metcalf said Thursday in a report.

A bank employee told the man the bills were counterfeit. The man told police that an unknown man approached him Sunday at the Stuckey's restaurant on the Rogersville Road asking to borrow $20 for gas.

The Bulls Gap man told officers he used his debit card to purchase gas for the man, and then gave him his address to get repai

The same man came to his house afterward "and repaid him with $5 bills," the report said.

The man "drove off in a white four-door car," the report said.

No charges were filed. The bills were placed into evidence.
