Man Refuses To Halt, Faces Drug Charges

Brian Manuel, 43, of 702 Wesley Ave., was charged about 1:45 a.m. today with drug possession counts after allegedly throwing drugs away when he saw a police car coming toward him, Greeneville police Officer Billy Christy said in a report.

Manuel was seen walking on Wesley Avenue. As the police car approached, "he reached toward his pockets and jumped behind a large bush," the report said.

Manuel "then came back out onto the sidewalk," the report said.

He allegedly "was still digging into his pockets" and cursing the officer as he walked away, refusing commands to halt until a police dog was released from the patrol car, the report said.

Manuel was taken into custody without incident.

Police looked behind the bushes where Manuel had been and found a small bag containing suspected crack cocaine and four pills, including three hydrocodone and one Xanax, the report said.

Manuel was charged with simple possession of Schedule II, III and IV drugs.

Bond was set at $3,000, pending a first General Sessions Court appearance today.
