A man who sent checks totaling $17,250 to a Minneapolis publisher to have books printed is the victim of an apparent scam, sheriff's Deputy John Stills said in a report.
The victim, who lives on East Allens Bridge Road, sent the first check May 29.
He had not gotten any books by Tuesday and contacted the publisher at a 612 area code number.
"He did not receive any books, and the company has since gone out of business," the report said.
