A man who allegedly stole $36,000 Monday from a safe in a house on Horse Creek Park Road is being sought by Greene County sheriff's deputies.
The 18-year-old was visiting his girlfriend, who was watching her grandfather's house while he was at a hospital with his wife, Deputy Toby Price said in a report.
The girlfriend works nights and fell asleep, the report said.
While she was sleeping, the suspect "got into the victim's locked bedroom and pried open the victim's safe," which held $36,000 in cash, according to the report.
When the granddaughter woke up, the suspect was gone, and she found the safe had been broken into, the report said.
The granddaughter contacted the suspect and met him at an Austin Street address.
The pair argued, and the suspect "threw $10,800 in cash at [the woman] and stated that's all he had left and drove off," the report said.
The suspect left in a car with another man, who is named in the report.
The alleged theft remains under investigation.
