Sheriff's deputies checking the welfare of a child Wednesday in an apartment on Indian Hills Circle found marijuana-laced brownies on a kitchen counter within reach of a 3-year-old boy.
Charged with felony child neglect, possession of a Schedule VI drug with intent to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia was the father, Issac Kalvolic, 21, of 211 Indian Hills.
Another man at the apartment, 19-year-old Kenny McIntosh, of 1504 Ridgeview Drive, was charged with felony possession of a Schedule VI drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A "strong odor of marijuana" was detected in the apartment, Deputy Mike Jones said in a report.
Deputies received written consent to search the apartment from the mother of the boy.
Kalvolic, acting as the primary caregiver, "did knowingly neglect the welfare of his child by preparing and placing brownies containing marijuana where the child could have consumed them," the report said.
Deputies found 30 grams of marijuana "packaged in multiple Baggies" in Kalvolic's bedroom, along with a set of scales and other plastic bags. Also found in the apartment were "multiple pipes," a grinder and rolling papers.
A Crown Royal bag found in a pitcher on the kitchen counter that contained 44 grams of marijuana and a digital scale belonged to McIntosh, the report said.
Bond for Kalvolic and McIntosh was set at $12,000 and $11,000, respectively. Both were scheduled to appear this morning in General Sessions Court.
