A Greeneville motorcyclist was critically injured about 3 p.m. Saturday in a collision with a car in the 8600 block of the Asheville Highway, in front of the Creekside Market.
Jack E. Collins, 63, was flown to Johnson City Medical Center by Lifestar helicopter. He was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The driver of a 1997 Acura sedan involved in the crash, 36-year-old Arthur K. Tidwell III, was not injured, Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Miller said in a preliminary report.
The report said that Tidwell was southbound on Asheville Highway and attempted to make a left-hand turn into the Creekside Market.
Tidwell "turned directly in front of (Collins)," who was northbound on Asheville Highway on a 2005 Yamaha V-Star motorcycle, the report said.
The motorcycle struck the car in the passenger side area, the report said.
Collins was wearing a helmet, but not one approved by the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the report said.
Collins was cited for helmet and insurance violations.
Charges are pending against Tidwell, the report said.
