The Greene County Election Commission has announced that Eddie H. O'Brien, of West Vann Road, Greeneville, has filed a petition to run for election in the 8th County Commissioner District.

O'Brien has ran in numerous elections in the past, including for city and state government.

The 8th District position became vacant with the death of Commissioner Brenda Grogan on Aug. 6 following a recent illness.

O'Brien filed the petition on Tuesday.

Others who have filed are former County Commissioner Bill Dabbs, Phil Gentry, Andrew Hillyer, and Russell Johnson.

The election to fill Grogan's unexpired term will take place on Nov. 6 in connection with the state and federal General Election on that date.

The commissioner term expires at the end of August 2014.

The deadline for filing petitions to run for the 8th District seat is noon today.
