Cpl. Jedidiah Jones will have quite the story for his friends when he returns today to Camp Lejeune, N.C.

A graduate of Greeneville High School and a radio operator of with a U.S. Marine Corps infantry unit, Cpl. Jones proposed to girlfriend Rachel Sprouse of Greeneville on Tuesday evening at Pioneer Park.

After cleverly talking her into participating in the sixth-inning game of musical chairs at the Greeneville Astros game, he went down on one knee in front of the record-breaking 3,824 fans and asked Sprouse to be his bride. She said yes.

Sprouse, a graduate of South Greene High School, was still recovering from the shock when interviewed during the seventh inning.

When asked how she was feeling, "Very excited" was all she could get out amid a perpetual smile.

"I thought we were just playing musical chairs!" Sprouse said of the well-planned surprise.

Cpl. Jones returned last March from a tour of duty in Afghanistan and was home on leave for Independence Day.

The couple's wedding date has been scheduled for Nov. 3.
