Nearly 250 walkers turned out Saturday morning to participate in the annual Greeneville MS Walk.

The non-competitive walking event on the Tusculum College campus raised more than $15,000 to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS), organizers said.

"Many walkers chose to make multiple laps of the 1.2-mile trail, which coursed through the Old Oak Festival," said Jan Pass, one of the event organizers.

With more than 75 participants on its team, the Walters State Community College MS Walk team had the largest number of walkers of the 21 teams registered for the 15th annual MS walk.

Walk organizers are hopeful that the final total will exceed $20,000 once all matching funds and online donations are counted.

Contributions for this year's fundraising walk can still be made through May 31.

Those wishing to make donations can make their check payable to NMSS.
